HollowJam is a horror visual novel jam by Fuwanovel, created to celebrate the darker side of horror storytelling without restrictions.It started as a reaction to overly sanitized, rule-heavy jams, with the core idea of having no rules dictating what can or cannot be written.The jam was initially hosted on itch.io, but it became impossible to conduct thanks to the platform’s new content guidelines.So, we created our own website to bring about the jam without making compromises and betraying our vision.Because creativity shouldn't be limited by the whims of a few.

Welcome to HollowJam—a visual novel jam celebrating the darker side of horror storytelling—hosted by Fuwanovel.

A few months back, during one of our many aimless conversations, we at Fuwanovel landed on the idea of hosting a horror VN jam.
⊹
Novel idea? Definitely. But there was one other thing; our jam would have no rules whatsoever.
⊹
It was more or less a response to the overly sanitized, rule-heavy jams that were happening around the same time.

Over the next few weeks, we tossed around ideas, had some back-and-forth, and eventually put together the jam page on itch.io.
⊹
Though ironically, our “no-rules” jam still had to follow the platform’s rules, but we made sure to mention that. Not ideal, but hey, what can you do?

That was the little slogan we had the end of the page. Pretty generic, I know. But it sounded like it did the job.

Then...

As part of their response to their new, controversial guidelines itch.io stated, "Our policy is not an invitation to push the boundaries of what is acceptable."

And those words took on an entirely different meaning.
⊹
It was clear that itch.io is no longer a place where we can host our jam in any meaningful way.
⊹
⊹
The jam was born out of the desire to make a simple statement:
"Creativity shouldn't be limited by the whims of a few."

In light of recent events, it’s clear this isn’t just us; it’s a sentiment millions around the world share, loudly and unapologetically.
⊹
So, we decided to host it ourselves, in our own website, under our own rules.

⟐ HollowJam will run from October 1st to November 1st.
‣ We will accept entries that were originally created for other jams, as long as they were made no earlier than September and have undergone significant modification during this jam to match its tone.
‣ This thread on FuwaForums and the discord server will be the main community hubs for the jam.
⟐ The theme will be revealed, and submissions will open on the day.
‣ Following the theme is not required to participate, but entries that incorporate it will be listed more favorably.‣ You will be able to submit your game on this website itself. More information will be added once the jam begins.
⟐ There are no restrictions in the content you wish to discuss. Tackle any topic, depict anything you please, however you please.
⁜We ask that you be a legal adult, your submission be a downloadable horror visual novel and that you start and end work during the specified period.
